Many times we come across drained pipes at homes. It can be your kitchen sink or your shower. It’s time to address the clog in your pipes and there are many ways to do it.
Apart from clearing the clog, it’s also a good idea to take plumbing and drainage insurance to cover any plumbing and drainage emergencies to get assistance from expert plumbers near your home.
1. Chemical Solutions
Own unclogging mixture: We can make our own unclogging mixture using household items like vinegar, baking soda, and water. It is one of the best methods to unclog your pipes. Baking soda is a strong chemical and when mixed with water it can loosen any build-ups in your pipe, and when vinegar is added to it, allows the sludge to move down the drain easily due to its chemical reaction with baking soda and water.
The first step is to pour some boiling water down your drain.
Then, pour 1/2 cup of baking soda down the drain and wait for 5 minutes.
Later mix a solution of 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup very hot water. Allow it to rest for 10 minutes.
After 10 minutes pour one more pot of boiling water down the drain. It will allow flushing away the scum that has been loosened up by baking soda and vinegar.
Buy Cleaners: One of the most convenient ways to clean your clogged pipes is by purchasing liquid cleaner from a store. These liquids are perfect solutions but look out for the expiry date or else it can damage.
Before using the liquid cleaner read the instructions as to how much solution needs to be used. Once you pour the liquid cleaner wait for some time and then rinse it with hot water.
Powder Solution: As some liquid cleaners are harmful to pipes, many people opt for powder solution to clean their pipes. Most of the powders contain Sodium Hydroxide which is strong enough to quickly unclog any drains. There is no need for the powder to sit in the clog for time.
Before you use the powder just rinse the pipes with hot water and then pour the powder. Let it sit for 2 minutes and then rinse it again with very hot water. This will loosen the food particles and cleans your pipes in no time.

2. Using Tools to clear Drains
Use Plunger: You can use tools such as a plunger to clear the clog from the bathtub, toilet, sink, etc. It is easy to use this tool as it has a long straight handle with a rubber cup in the front that is flexible to suck any blockages and allows the air and water to flow through the pipes.
Drain Snake: A drain snake may be able to clear the blockage if your plunger fails. In order to unclog pipes, a drain snake is used to remove any build-up that has accumulated within them. A drain snake’s front end typically has an auger, which is shaped like a spiral. Almost every hardware store sells them.
Feed the snake into the drain with its auger end first. You may want to twirl the drain snake as it goes through the pipe so that it will be as easy as possible to make it through the pipe. Begin slowly pulling the drain snake back out once it has been inserted. In this manner, the debris that is clogging the pipe should be broken up. Make sure that all of your pipes are free of obstructions by repeating this step a couple of times
Make Your Own Drain Snake: It is an excellent option if you do not have a plumber or drain snake handy. The only thing you’ll need for making your own drain snake is a wire hanger, which nearly everyone has in their closet. It might be a good idea to tape the wire hanger so it doesn’t scratch your toilet.
Use high-pressure drain blaster: Air blasters are devices that unclog drains by blasting high-pressure air into them. You pump the device several times to release air. Place the tip on the clogged drain and place it on the end. An electric drain blaster can be purchased online or at your local home improvement store.
3. Cleaning Pipes
Locate the problem: Does it come from the waste pipe outlet of the bathtub, the toilet, or the kitchen sink? Most clogged waste pipes are caused by soap scum, hair, oil, or food waste. You will need to disconnect and clean the U-bend trap (also known as the P-trap).
Disconnect on your Own: Under sinks and baths, P-traps (U-bend traps) can be located beneath the plug hole, while in toilet tanks, they can be found in the tank. This waste tube traps debris, it also prevents clogs from forming in your plumbing system. This can stop foul-smelling gases and odours from passing into your home.
Keep pipes clear: In order to prevent any clogged pipes, it is a good way to clean the drains every 1-2 weeks. By doing so your drains will never have issues and no foul smell will enter the room.
